Bo is a professional musician who has lived on Maui for 35 years. We call him the Bard of Baldwin because he loves to play guitar and sing on the beach. Baldwin Beach is our go-to beach because there is plenty of parking, the water is a magical translucent blue-green color and there are two protected coves for swimming, one at each end of the beach. Baldwin is a wide beach that stretches for 3/4 mile. At the South West end is Baby Beach which is shallow and protected by a reef and therefore very popular for kids. However, it has a strong current. You will often see swimmers in googles and swim caps swimming the length of the beach. There is a small amount of parking at Baby Beach so we prefer to park at Baldwin and walk over to Baby beach (3/4 mile). On the North end of Baldwin Beach is a small protected bay frequented by musicians and yoga practitioners. This is a very short walk from the parking lot (to your right / North). On the weekends you are likely to hear live music, usually from a group of drummers and guitarists. Baldwin is also a popular beach for dogs. If you see a honu, turtle, on the beach, do not disturb it. You can take a picture from far away (zoom in). Plan to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the strong winds that pick up mid day, about 11am, and blow sand in your face. There are spectacular views of Kahakaloa Point and the West Maui mountain range. Baldwin is next to Paia town and has a wide paved path that leads to the shops and restaurants (about 3/4 mile walk into Paia town from Baldwin beach).
