Maui's "Other" Bamboo Forest šŸŽ‹

This is not the famous bamboo forest that is actually in Hana on Pipiwai Trail, but it is on the road to Hana and if you live upcountry it is much more accessible. This forest is in Huelo and it is a great place to take take guests. It's about 11 miles past the Haiku Community Center on Hana Highway - just before the 7 mile marker on Hana Highway. You'll get a little bit of the experience of Hana Highway with its narrow turns and lots of traffic. There are no signs and limited parking. The entrance is almost invisible because it's a narrow opening in the forest of trees lining the road. The trails extend throughout this dense forest of bamboo and cross a river and more than one waterfall. The closest waterfall is accessible if you stay left from the beginning of the trail. Do not hike here if it has recently rained or is currently raining because it is prone to flash floods.

Take route 36, the "Hana Highway" East out of Paia. Follow for approximately 14 miles until the road's mile markers reset, changing into route 360. Follow route 360 just past mile marker 6, and a very sharp uphill turn to the right and look for parking on the right side off the roadway or turn around and park on opposite side of road.
