Lanai island is a ferry ride away from Maui and the cat sanctuary is a popular spot for visitors to Lanai. They operate on donations only, so consider making a donation and buying one of their super cute coffee cups or t-shirts even if you can't visit in person.
If you are staying on Maui you can take a ferry ride over to Lanai island. You can book your ferry ride online in advance. It is highly recommended to reserve a shuttle a ride in advance as well. When you arrive at the dock your shuttle will be ready to take you to the sanctuary.
Once you arrive you can purchase some treats for the kitties and then proceed to walk around the wide open grassy areas. There are plenty of chairs to sit and hang out with the cats. Some of are friendly, some are skittish, some won't leave you alone once they know you have treats. It opens your heart to see all these cats so well cared for and so comfortable in their spacious outdoor setting.
