Hauloa Pohaku - Mystical Stone in Lahaina 🪨

Hauloa pohaku is in Lahaina along the shoreline near the harbor with the Lanai Ferry. The stone is washed by the waves along the shoreline with a backdrop of sailboats and the island of Lanai. Hauola means "to extend life and health". As part of a healing program with herbal remedies and lomilomi, Hawaiian healers would have their patients sit on the rock, which is shaped like a chair, to let the water flow over them. The water is a combination of sea water and fresh water from the West Maui mountains that merges via an underground source.

This stone was also used as a birthing stone for the ali'i Hawaiian royalty during the 14th and 15th centuries. When the chief’s wife was ready to give birth, her attendants would help her onto the stone, assist in delivering her child, and witness the birth of another great leader. If you can visit Oahu there is a fantastic site with sacred place of birthing stones at Kukaniloko on the North Shore.

Ka La'i o Hauola ~ The calm of Hauloa

For tourists this is not very interesting . But if you are local and appreciate Hawaiian culture this is an interesting site.
