Kaanapali Beach is a long sandy beach that stretches for a mile from Black Rock on the North end to Canoe Beach on the south end. A long paved walkway fronts the hotels that line the beach and you can stroll from one end to the other with a wide variety of restaurants and constant access to the beach. Kaanapali is the most popular place on Maui for a tropical, full featured, easy access "resort" experience. For a more local experience you'll need to venture out to other areas of Maui.
The first vacation we took together was to Maui in 1993. We stayed in Kaanapali at the Embassy Suites, which is now the Westin. Back then we explored Maui for a week. Now we live here. Today is our 24th anniversary. So we went to Kaanapali. We parked at Whaler's Village, had lunch, walked along the beach and took a dip. Whaler's Village has high end shopping, nice restaurants and local artwork. It is centrally located about halfway between the Sheraton and Marriott. At this time of year it is decorated with Christmas trees, lights and ornaments. We came across some breadfruit trees and brought back a few breadfruits to make one of our favorite recipes - breadfruit mango curry.
